October meeting The meeting started promptly at 8pm with a close to full house of members, unfortunately President Andrew was unable to attend and his father Peter would run the meeting. The club also welcomed zone chairman Lion Ivan and his wife Lion Janine. The club received and circulated many pieces of correspondence, including an appeal for Syrian Refugees which was circulated to members. Under the treadurer report the interesting things were: £60 income from a future event and money from the Dragon Bay event. £200 went out to the Syrian refugee appeal. The club also spent money designing and printing leaflets for the Jingle Bell Jog, renting the community bus to take some elderly to the Stavely opera, £605.50 went to pay the rent for the store and £30 went to buy…

We just wanted to say a huge thank you to for your support at the recent Lakes Charity Classic Vehicle Show. With your support this year ended up as the largest event we have organised to date - with around 230 classic cars, bikes, vans, trucks and tractors on show for the adoring public and plenty of entertainment for the whole family to make a great Fathers' Day out! Our team Car Pull event was also a huge success with four (and a half) teams taking part - this will definitely be repeated next year. With your help this event generated a staggering £7,500 profit, which will all used for charitable purposes - receiving specific donations will be The Calvert Trust and The Bendrigg Trust Charities. Charity Car Pull seeks challengers Windermere and Ambleside Lions Club are after entries to a fun team based car pull at their successful annual Charity Classic Vehicle Show Teams are being asked to come and test out their strength and take part in the Charity Car Pull competition at the Lakes Charity Classic Vehicle Show on Sunday 21st June 2015 at the Grasmere Sports Field. Teams should be four people and they will pull a rally car 100m down a track, and back again – 200m in total – using only a tow rope. Each team will be timed by our master adjudicator – and the fastest team overall will win a £100 cash prize, a free lunch for four at the Britannia Inn at Elterwater and a commemorative trophy…

Windermere and Ambleside Lions Club donated £2,845 last month to local and global good causes Windermere and Ambleside Lions toasted last night (Tuesday 2nd June) to a month of big donations. The local charitable organisation fund-raises locally at events such as the Brathay Marathon and Low Wood No Wood Cardboard Boat Race to then give it all away to good causes. Typically they are local needs such as grants to Young Carers or funding a caravan for Alice's Escapes but this month saw big donations to disaster relief in Vanuatu and Nepal. £1000 was donated to aid work in Vanuatu after Cyclone Pam and £1100 to Nepal after two devastating earthquakes. June's meeting started without Lion Keith Fell, which surprised everyone. The first juicy bit of information came in the Correspondence when Lion President Peter brought up a thank you letter from LCIF for a £1,100 donation for Nepal. Also received in correspondence was a letter and raffle ticket book from St Mary's Hospice. Tickets are £1 and there is a grand prize of £5,000. The club bought a book of £20 not knowing what we would do if we won. A community bus pull event was hailed a success after hundreds of pounds were raised and no one was run over by the bus! Organised by Windermere and Ambleside Lions and the Friends of the 597 the event was held today (Saturday 25th April) at 11am on Glebe Road, Bowness-on-Windermere. The event is helping to raise money to keep the service going after its rural bus subsidy was cut by Cumbria County Council. The bus is used by hundreds of residents including many of our elderly and the trial is being funded by a Windermere Town Council grant and fundraising with events such as this. Sandwiches and chips are provided at this informal meet and greet being held 4.30pm to 8pm on Tuesday 14th April 2015. Lion Andrew Irving sent his apologies to the February meeting because he needed to engrave a headstone on a fixed schedule. The club discussed a very serious change... The name of the club. At the moment the club is called Windermere and Ambleside Lions but it is proposed to be rebranded to Lakes Lions to amalgamate with our web presence and overcome issues with being seen as Windermere Lions by residents of Ambleside and Ambleside Lions by residents of Windermere. The rename will be investigated further. It was raised that we don't have a treasurer at the moment. Windermere and Ambleside Lions had their Christmas Lunch a little bit late... Meeting today (Sunday 25th January) for lunch at the Brown Horse in Winster Valley. Lion President Peter commented to say that the event is very worthwhile and it's great to get members and families together. Lions Clubs are encouraged to have social events and different clubs have different calendars of events. Lakes lions often have their Christmas do as a lunch after the main season in January.

The return of a Charity Pram Race has been cancelled after a £4,500 claim of "loss of earnings" from Windermere Petrol Station   The New Year Charity Pram Race that was due to make a triumphant return in just a few weeks has been cancelled. The event was being resurrected by Windermere and Ambleside Lions who ran the event for 25 years up until the turn of the Millennium. But in a message to the many entries, marshals and sponsors event director Ben Berry said he hit a road block:   "Windermere Petrol station are pursuing me personally and the Lions club for £4,500 loss of earnings for the few hours the road will be closed. Whilst we have event insurance and corporate legal cover this wouldn't cover any claim.…
